The Pottery of Edwin & Mary Scheier
Edwin & Mary Scheier arrived in Durham beginning the fall semester of 1940 having obtained positions at the University of New Hampshire with the assistance of David Campbell, the then-director of the New Hampshire League of Arts & Crafts. Campbell, having been impressed with their work, was eager to draw talented artisans to New Hampshire and the League.
During the next two decades they spent at the University of New Hampshire, and the subsequent years before their departure to Mexico in 1968, Ed & Mary produced some of the finest work of any of the mid-century studio potters.
